Through the winter of 2022, Amadeus painted one sheet each evening from the studio window in Chiasso. The subject never changed: the dark facade of the building opposite, and whichever windows were lit at the time he looked.
The rules were fixed at the start. One sheet a night, same size, same three pigments, painted between six and seven. If no window was lit, the sheet stayed dark. He did not miss an evening.
For the first forty nights, one window was lit. On the forty-first there were two, at different heights, which meant different apartments. By the forty-second it was one again. He never learned who the second window belonged to.
The record was set and printed by Nadia Bosia at Officina Bosia in Chiasso, in an edition of ninety — one copy for each evening. The ledger lists the date and the number of lit windows, and nothing else.
