Oil on aluminium — nine panels, permanent installation
The Hofacker cooperative asked for work in the stairwell of its building in Zurich Aussersihl. The stairwell is the only place in the building where residents reliably meet, and the only place nobody stops.
Amadeus made one panel for each of the nine floors. Every panel is the view from that landing's own window, reduced to three or four flat shapes — a floor, a door, a wall, a diagonal of light — and painted in the light that actually reaches that floor. The lowest panels are cool and grey; the light warms and rises as the series climbs.
Every panel is empty. No one is shown on any of them.
Oil on aluminium rather than linen, because the work had to survive a public stairwell without glass. The panels were installed in April 2024 and have not been moved.
