Eleven canvases stretched for Milan

Eleven blank stretched linen canvases leaning against the wall of a bare concrete studio, beside a work table with a staple gun and a roll of linen.

The last of the Platform canvases came off the stretching table this week. Painting starts once the sizing has cured.

Amadeus stretches his own linen and sizes it by hand, which takes about a week per canvas and cannot be rushed in summer.

The eleven for Milan were made over five weeks. They are the largest group he has prepared at once, and the studio is now more or less impassable.

Nothing is primed white. The linen keeps its own colour, because in most of the paintings some of it is meant to stay bare.
